What good is a job or career if it doesn’t interest you?

I’m imaging that something like that ran through John Holland’s noggin years ago, and caused him to devise his famous/infamous occupational coding scheme.

Prior to Holland’s work, occupations were a mish mash. His goal was to organize them in a meaningful way… and he did.

Take a look at this.

You’ll see Holland’s system is based on the nature of work … and its polarities: Data vs. Ideas and People vs. Things.

If you are interested in work that allows you to work with People and Ideas you are drawn to an Artistic career. Want more people than Ideas? Try a Social career.
