Career Conundrums: Pursuing Your Dreams

Stephanie writes:

"The biggest barrier to living the life of my dreams is me. When I do not nurture and live the life of my dreams I diminish its value and importance. In reality, there are few things in life more important than pursuing my dreams – my highest potential – but it is easy to let other things take priority."

Why is that? Why DO other less important things take precedence?

One reason is that there are just so frigging many of them!
I call them The Trivial Many!

Yesterday I taught a workshop on Time Management for Virtual
Assistants. Talk about folks with lots to do! One of the participants lamented
the fact that her To Do list was 2 pages long.

That’s about 1 ¾ pages too many!!

We all know the classic A B C method. Or, the H M L method.
Or, the 1 2 3 method. Simple. Rate the To Do’s and break them down into
priorities. Sounds easy. And, it is!

But, what happens when we have dozens of A’s or 1’s or H’s?

It’s time to get brutally honest.

It’s time to get crystal clear.

It’s time to admit what’s really, really important.

Take a careful look at that TO DO list. Pick all those H’s,
A’s and 1’s. Now, ask yourself: “Which of these things, if and when I do them, will truly help me achieve my dreams?”

I’m betting it’s damn few of them.

Focus on those CRITICAL FEW.

Ignore the TRIVIAL MANY.

And, actually DO something. Take action. Make a move. Take a
step on one of those important, critical few.

Then take one more.

And, one more…  and,
so on.
