It’s funny how life is.
Nothing is linear.
Certainly NOT my coaching practice.
Sometimes each client or prospective client comes to me with very different challenges. And, other times, like this week, the same challenge shows up in everyone’s life.
If this week’s common challenge were a song, it would be called "The Mea Culpa Blues!"
That title derives from the Catholic practice of self-flagelation or beating onself with a whip.
Many of us, yeah me too, can be really gifted at beating ourselves up.
Why the heck do we do it? Why abuse ourselves? And, not in a fun way. ;-0
Well, much it comes from our upbringing. Yep, time to blame mom, dad, and The Church. Oh, and don’t forget school!
The fact is we had to learn "how to behave". How to conform to expectations of us.
The problem is that many of us internalized these outside expectations as ridiculous standards of performance. Rigid rules. Crazy expectations.
So, when we fail to meet these standards –we do what our parents often did. We spank ourselves. We beat ourselves with words! And, then we wonder why we feel like shit.
The only reason to beat yourself up is because it feels so good when you stop.
