So, if you’re so freaking smart, so freaking talented; why aren’t you rolling in cash?
Why do you have to work your butt off at some stupid 9-to-5, moronic, JOB (Gawd! Doesn’t that word make you shiver) just to pay the rent?
Cause “they” are all idiots!
Well, okay, I take that back they’re not idiots — though man it sure as heck feels that way — they are merely ignorant.
What do I mean ignorant?
Ever heard the term “1 Trick Pony”?
Well, I hate to tell you this … BUT most, okay many, of the people in the world are “1 trick ponies” when it comes to talent/skills/abilities/gifts.
I’ll use my ‘evil’ (<Grin>) Step-Mother as an example. Now, mother gots skills. BUT, mama has a very narrow range of skills. She is a phenomenal seampstress, knitter, a great cook and baker. That’s it. Nothing wrong with those skills. Hell. I wish I could sew as well as she does.
But, her gifts, her talents, are all in the physical realm. If she were to take a Career Directions Inventory (an instrument I use to assess client’s career interests) I’m betting she’d fall in the CONVENTIONAL end of the Occupations map.
Again, nothing wrong with that. Tons of people make a damn good living in Conventional Occupations, e.g. clerks, bankers, technicians, et al.
BUT, I, on the other hand, live firmly at the totally opposite end of the Occupations map: the ARTISTIC end of the World of Work Map. This end of the map is home to a unruly band of professionals: Musicians, Writers, Editors, Videographers, Photographers, et al.
And, my mama (and Conventional people like her) don’t GET me! They don’t get what I do for a living. They are clueless. Why? Cause with a mono-focus, a, if you would have it, a Black & White view of the world, they don’t see the sparkly colours that I am.
But, it gets even more complex!
I’m not just sparkly in 1-dimension. I’m not just gifted as a wordsmith: I’m a business writer, creative writer, technical writer, and poet; I’m also a gifted painter, photographer, and cook. Oh! And, don’t forget the fact that I used to be a Kick Ass Fortran programmer.
That’s a shit load of talent! If I may brag on myself. <Blush>
And, that’s the case for most, if not all, of my PEEPS and clients. They have talents oozing out of every pore. And, those ignorant “Conventionals” simply CAN’T see — as in unable to perceive — can’t understand, don’t GROK, ALL the things I and my peeps and clients are capable of.
That’s why writers, musicians, photographers, et al are so often the worst paid people on the World of Work Map!
Those others don’t value what we CAN do.
SO, it’s up to US to educate them!
