The JUST Right Focus – Part 3

Okay! So, Artistic-types get caught up in the flow?

And, conventional techniques don’t work so well.

What  CAN you do?

You can ADAPT conventional techniques.

Here are some ideas:

  1. Make lists… but make shorter ones.
Strive to list your MAJOR goals (for the year, for the quarter) on ONE
page. And, keep the lists in digital form. If you must write lists on
paper. Write them in a spiral notebook and keep everything together. This
will help prevent losing things in the compost piles on your desk.
  1. Use tables of information. The
artistic-mind looks at the whole picture. Long lists tend to freeze the
brain. Recording related items in a table helps with holistic
organization. For example, I have a 3-column table which list my TOP 3
GOALS for the year. One goal per column. And, no more than 4 rows to
record the sub-goals or objectives for each goal. My most important dreams
         at a glance!
  1. Think and record in bigger time
         blocks.
Conventional wisdom focuses on daily To Do lists. I’ve found
that looking a single day hampers me. Instead, week-at-a-glance calendars
work much better. I like to know what I have to do this week. And, then do
it when it best fits my energy and mood.
  1. Record visually. Words are great
for some things. But, a picture is worth a thousand words. That’s why I
use graphically representations for my LifeGoalsâ„¢. All my goals on a
single. Different colours. I’m very visual and I can easily call up the
picture of my LifeGoalsâ„¢. Much more easily than when they were a list of
         items.

I hope some of these will better help you find focus and
stay focused.

One final thing before I head off on vacation.

The key to success is to move gently from FOCUS to FLOW. Think
Tai Chi.
