The JUST Right Focus

I’ve coached ‘artistic-types’
for more than 15 years. And, I am one.

Probably the greatest challenge facing artistic-types is FOCUS.

First, where to focus your keen creative mind?

Second, how to stay focused?

Today, I’m going to focus (deliberate pun) on the first question.

Why is where to focus such a problem?

Artistic-types are idea people. Your passion is manipulating ideas and
information to create meaning. That can involve turning an idea into a Blog
post like this. Or, creating a painting. Or, an opera.

Where do ideas come from?

Well, they come from inside and outside.

The artistic-type lives in the ‘flow’, is very keenly aware of the river
of information, data in which they live. Artistic-types are ‘open’ to the environment;
they notice what’s going on. That flow of information ‘pings’ their neural
circuits.

AH HA! An idea. An intuition.

That AH HA, that flare of psychic energy spurs them to move… often drives
them to express themselves creatively.

But, being creatures that live in the ‘flow’ they notice everything. It’s like
being in a rubber raft on a river. If the river is peaceful, the ride is
restoring, revitalizing. The neural circuits simmer, the ideas ‘float’ up and
slowly grow. Energy is focused.

But, when the idea river rages.. the raft is swept along… the neural
circuits light up… and, the artistic-type chases one … and then another…
and then another…. and then… well, you get the  picture.

So, when there are too many ideas the artistic-type loses focus.

Yummy!  They all look so good!

The strength — noticing the flow of ideas and information and inspiration —
now becomes a weakness. Almost every weakness is a strength taken too far!

So, how DOES an artistic-type find JUST the right focus?

Check back later, for more thoughts…
