The Neuroscience of Leadership

Back in September, I stumbled across a copy of Business + Strategy the flagship journal of Booz Hamilton Allen, the Big 5 Strategy firm.

I was captivated by an article on "The Neuroscience of Leadership".

Stephanie West Allen was kind enough to send me a link to a recent Webinar by the authors. You can watch and listen to a Webinar on the subject here.

What the heck does this have to do with you?

Well, whether you are part of an organization or YOU are the organization, you can use the ideas suggested by the authors.

Here’s a few things you can do:

  1. Have a vision — Like Martin Luther King, have a Dream and FOCUS on that Dream.
  2. Focus — Keep your ‘eye on the prize’. Do so by establishing Goals — but don’t make them so humungous or vague that you can’t acheive them
  3. Move from Focus to Flow — While keeping your Vision in mind, let your Heart and your Intuition pick out the best path.

The author’s talk about the importance of neuroplasticity. That is, having a brain that flexs and changes. Avoid hardening of the neurons by changing your mind — at least once a day! 😉
